Novel carbon capture and utilisation technologies: research and climate aspects This work followed a request by the College of Commissioners, led by Commissioner Cañete (Commissioner for Climate Action & Energy). The European Commission Group of Chief Scientific Advisors has been asked to provide scientific advice based on existing research on the climate mitigation potential of carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) technologies to inform future policy decisions including financial support. |

New techniques in agricultural biotechnology SAPEA brought together experts from across Europe to provide extensive support to the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors on this topic. In response to a request from the College of European Commissioners, led by Commissioner Andriukaitis (Commissioner for Health & Food Safety), the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors submitted an Explanatory Note on New techniques in Agricultural Biotechnology to the European Commission on 28 April 2017. The Explanatory Note provides a detailed scientific description of the full spectrum of agricultural breeding techniques used in plants, animals and microorganisms. The report describes and compares the new techniques with conventional breeding techniques with established techniques of genetic modification. |

Cybersecurity in the European digital single market SAPEA contributed to the work on this topic, which resulted in the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors Scientific Opinion: Cybersecurity in the European Digital Single Market (published March 2017). The report contains recommendations on making systems more secure, empowering users, strengthening Europe's strategically important cybersecurity industry, and improving the coordination and sharing of information across Europe. |
