The Slovenian Academy of Engineering (IAS) has organised four themed evenings where members discussed Slovenia’s development and industrial policy, the process of education from primary school to university, research, technological development, innovation and entrepreneurship, the economy, competitiveness and globalisation. The discussions were based on a comprehensive analysis of the current situations in these fields in Slovenia and the EU, An analysis that IAS carries out every year. Participants in the themed evenings were also able to refer to two documents that IAS had previously sent to every responsible institution in the country, namely: “Technology Highway: A Consensus for an Innovative Slovenia” (December 2010) and “Opinion on the Current Situation in Slovenia and Proposals for the Promotion of Economic Growth” (May 2012).
Based on the discussions, analysis of the current situation in the country and the available documents from foreign academies of engineering, IAS has formulated the following goals:
- to submit proposals to government institutions based on expert knowledge to serve as a foundation for drawing up competent proposals;
- to give an incentive for creating a foundation for a system of innovation – the third industrial revolution;
- to prepare proposals and recommendations for including Slovenia in the implementation of the Europe 2020 and Horizon 2020 programmes.
